The HWCP and the No Sweat Shop label is governed by the HWCP Committee Inc which includes various representatives from industry, union and community organizations.

The formation of the Committee in 1998 and the subsequent development of the No Sweat Shop Label came about by a shared desired to impact upon and improve parts of the fashion and textile industry that remain entrenched in a culture devoid of legal minimum standards and ethical practices.

Drawing of the diverse areas of expertise of its members, the Committee is able to provide practical solutions that cater to industry, labour and consumer interests. The Committee’s primary tasks are to:

  • Accredit manufacturers and oversee the accreditation process
  • Reaccredit and disaccredit companies
  • Register and maintain the No Sweat Shop trademarks, logos and other identification items
  • Administer education, publicity and compliance funds
  • Handle grievance procedures and settle disputes
  • Develop and maintain the Garment Sewing Timing Manual
