Like ‘manufacturers’ who become Accredited to the Code, ‘retailers’ can also support efforts to end the exploitation of homeworkers by becoming Signatories to the Code. Although the Accreditation process for manufacturers is far more involved, Signatory retailers also make a positive contribution to the Code by ensuring that their Australian-based textile, clothing and footwear suppliers undertake to comply with the Code, Award provisions and other laws relevant to the engagement of homeworkers.

If a retailer is provided with evidence that a supplier is not meeting their obligations, the retailer will inform the non-compliant supplier that if the problem is not resolved, all of the supplier’s products will be removed from the retailer’s stores and will not be sold. Such action from Code Signatories has proven to be an effective method in changing the behavior of unethical manufacturers.

The retailers listed below are all currently Signatories to the Code. However, please note that being a 'Signatory Retailer' is not the same thing as being an 'Accredited Manufacturer' and these retailers do not necessarily stock garments bearing the 'No Sweat Shop' label.
